Autumn with The Banjo
Following a recent tour to Tenterfield and talking with the locals, we discovered that for one day only, the 2026 Tenterfield Autumn Festival is staging a tribute musical honouring Banjo Paterson – ‘Banjo The Musical – The Dusty Track To Paradise’. So we decided to lock in a tour to the Northern Tablelands of the New England region. A tour that will coincide plenty of sightseeing. A tour in Autumn With The Banjo.

Day 1 Friday, 27 March 2026
Toowoomba to Tenterfield MEALS LD
Begin this tour in true eXpedition10 style eXploring the roads less travelled descending The Range to our first destination, Ma Ma Creek. Visit the local cemetery and view the monument erected by Mrs Andrews in 1920, in memory of her three sons who lost their lives in WW1.
Continue eXploring more back roads to Spicers Hidden Vale for smoko then on to through Mount Mort and Rosevale, eventually arriving in Aratula for a leg stretch.
From Aratula our journey will continue up to The Head just near the very start of the mighty Condamine River* before arriving in Killarney. Killarney is located on land taken up by the Lesley Brothers for, Canning Downs, one of the first pastoral leases on the darling Downs. It is also our lunch break today.
* If the road is open on our travel dates, our plan is to travel through the Condamine River Gorge to Killarney, however, due to many recent unannounced council road closures through the gorge we cannot guarantee this route.
From Killarney our route is mostly along the Mount Lindsay Road through Liston where there is a memorial to Cobb& Co. We will also detour into Boonoo Boonoo Falls, Thunderbolt’s Lookout and WWII Tank Traps before arriving in Tenterfield for the night.

Day 2 Saturday, 28 March 2026
Tenterfield Exploring Meals L
This morning will be spent exploring Tenterfield with a local guide taking in sights such as the Tenterfield Saddler, Railway Museum, and Centenary Cottage.
Following lunch, visit a one of Tenterfield’s stunning open gardens for a guided tour Behind The Hedges.
There will be some time to stroll along Tenterfield’s historic main street before freshening up for the show tonight, BANJO, The Musical. The Dusty Road to Paradise.

Tenterfield to Toowoomba Meals L
Prior to departing Tenterfield, take time to visit to another stunning garden, chapel and historic house.
The Bungalow and Ivy Leaf Chapel is one of the districts very popular B&B home with timeless and enchanting gardens which mesmerise you throughout every season and the Ivy Leaf Chapel, entwined in boston ivy, offers the ideal setting for intimate, personalised weddings straight out of a fairytale.
Tour magnificent Stannum House and see the progress of the extensive ongoing restorations of this historic mansion undertaken by new owners Wendy and Bruce. This Victorian Italianate mansion was built in 1888 by mining magnate John Holmes Reid.
Quoll Headquarters is a large nature reserve, nestled between four National Parks, on the top of the Great Dividing Range north of Tenterfield, NSW. It is also the home of Australia’s apex mainland marsupial predator, the Spotted-tailed Quoll. A stealthy, cantankerous carnivore that rules this ecosystem. Today we have arranged a guided visit to come inside the sanctuary, take a look around and see the conservation work that’s being done.
Following lunch return to Toowoomba arriving home around 5:00pm
