Day 1 Thursday, 3 July 2025

Cairns to Horn-Thursday Island     Meals LD

Flights have been arranged to take you from Cairns to Cape York this morning. Upon arrival at Horn Island an eXpedition10 crew member will meet you at the airport to escort you on your Cape York adventure. Meet expert guide Vanessa for a very informative heritage tour of Horn Island - including lunch, visiting many of the sites occupied by Australian and USA troops during WWII.  A short ferry ride will take you to Thursday Island to your accommodation.

Day 2 Friday, 4 July 2025

Thursday Island to Loyalty Beach     MEALS BD

Take an introduction tour of Thursday Island with Liberty, a born and bred Thursday Islander who will share entertaining stories of his years growing up in the Torres Strait as well as pointing out sights such as Battery Point Fort and the cemetery where many pearl divers from around Asia are laid to rest. During some free time you may then like to v local artist, Rosie Ware’s studio or the Thursday Island Cutural Centre prior to boarding the ferry for a trip to the mainland. The ferry drops off in Seisia on the western shore of Cape York and is where our eXpedition10 bus awaits to take us to our ‘home’ in Bamaga for two nights.

Day 3   Saturday, 5 July 2025

eXploring Cape York     Meals BLD

Many northern areas of Australia were subject to bombing raids during WWII and there are still several relics lying in the area. Today’s adventure will visit some plane wrecks before heading closer to the most northern point on mainland Australia. Call in to the Croc Tent  a famous souvenir shop which ‘appeared’ in 1984. With souvenirs in hand, travel to ‘windy’ Fly Point, often turtles can be spotted from the lookout here, then onto historic Somerset. 
Finally, the moment you have been waiting for, it’s time to visit the The Tip. It’s hard to describe the feeling of standing on the very northern most point of Australia’s mainland.

Day 4   Sunday, 6 July 2025

Loyalty Beach to Bramwell Station     Meals BLD

South of Loyalty Beach is the Jardine River, a once formidable barrier for visitors to Cape York. Crossing the river has destroyed many vehicles however, in more recent times a vehicular ferry has been introduced making the crossing very easy. Enjoy a refreshing swim in the waters of Fruitbat Falls before travelling to Bramwell Station for the night. You may notice that the termite mounts have grown quite tall in this region. Tonight, during dinner, enjoy the entertainment and company of other travellers to Cape York.

Day 5   Monday, 7 July 2025

Bramwell Station to Weipa     Meals BD

From Bramwell Station, travel south to the former Moreton Telegraph Station for brekky with our friends Mike and Wendy. The Moreton Telegraph Station located near the Wenlock River dates back to the 1880’s and was and important telegraph office on the Cape York Telegraph Line. Following brekky and a look around continue on through Batavia Downs to the West coast to the bauxite mining centre of Weipa. There will be time for shopping and lunch before check in to our accommodation.

Day 6   Tuesday, 8 July 2025

Weipa, Pennefather, Mapoon   Meals BLD

Some of today’s sightseeing includes Pennefather Beach, about a one-hour drive north of Weipa. Pennefather Beach is very popular for fisherman, some have even set up semi permanent camps among the dunes. If possible we will take a drive through the dunes to the mouth of the Pennefather River. In the lagoon near the river there has been sevearal crocodile sightings. Further north is historic Mapoon. We will take a look around the town and point before returning to Weipa.

Day 7   Wednesday, 9 July 2025

Weipa to Coen     Meals BL

This morning we will board Western Cape Eco Tours boat for and informative wildlife spotting cruise on the Embly River before heading back west to the Peninsula Developmental Road (PDR) and on to Archer River. At the Archer River Roadhouse make sure to look out for the memorial built to honour Toots Holzheimer. “Toots” was one of Australia’s best-known truckies. Toots and her truck were a lifeline for communities the length of Cape York. A little further south is the old gold mining town, Coen. Coen is also home tonight. A visit to the local hotel may have some wondering how it got such an unusual name….

Day 8   Thursday, 10 July 2025

Coen to Fairview Station     Meals BLD

Coen was once a bustling gold rush region with gold mines dotted throughout the surrounding hills. During our drive today we will pass through some of the former gold fields. Take a lunch break at Musgrave Station then continue the drive to enjoy some of the sights of Lakefield National Park and Old Laura Station. Finish today’s adventure at Fairview Station, a working Cape York cattle property.

Day 9   Friday, 11 July 2025

Fairview Station to Palmerville Station     Meals BLD

Detouring from the PDR today will take this journey onto Palmerville Station, a working cattle property and another gold mining locality. Palmerville is well known for its golden history. Call in to what remains of the old gold town of Maytown then continue on to Cannibal Creek Goldfields. Spend tonight relaxing around the fire, enjoying a coldie and sharing stories with your mates.  Sometimes, prospectors camped nearby drop in for a yarn about their gold finds. Rest up tonight as tomorrow it will be your turn to join them.

Cannibal Creek Goldfields - Prospecting     Meals BLD

We have arranged for expert gold prospector today to take you to the best places to discover gold. It is not guaranteed that everyone will find gold but, in this location, and with our expert guide you will have the best possible chance. Be warned, gold prospecting is highly addictive and may leave those who participate longing to purchase high quality gold detectors (Smiley Face)
PLEASE NOTE: Prospecting is done through unprepared natural country which has no pathways and could cover some quite rugged country, therefore it is mandatory that you wear long pants, preferably jeans, a wide brimmed hat and closed in shoes.

Day 11 Sunday, 13 July 2025

Cannibal Creek Goldfields  to Cooktown     Meals BD

It is a quite beautiful drive through rolling hills and crossing many creeks on the return to the main road from Cannibal Creek Goldfields. Call in to Lakeland for lunch then to an eXpedition10 eXclusive property for a guided tour by the owner Peter or Annette. Peter and Annette have lived on and owned cattle properties throughout the Cape York region for many years. His property in Lakeland lies on some incredible country ranging from grassy paddocks to mountainous bushland. The ‘crown jewel’ is a massive dam he recently completed to supply water for his stock and irrigation to local banana plantations. Continuing on, take a short drive to Cooktown arriving around lunch time. Following a look around town, check in to your motel for the night.

Cooktown Sightseeing     MEALS B

Cooktown lies near the coastline on the banks of the Endeavor River. It is the site where Captain Cook beached his ship, the Endeavour, for seven weeks to make repairs to the leaking hull. The town is named to honour James Cook. Cooktown became a vital link to the gold fields by providing a safe port for many prospectors making their way to the Palmer River fields. Today we will enjoy  a guided town tour showing some of the fascinating sights of Cooktown and the surrounding region. Then tonight, board a sunset cruise - a wonderful way to finish the day

Day 13 Tuesday, 15 July 2025

Cooktown to The Daintree     Meals BD

Following a visit to the Botanic Gardens in Cooktown this morning our route follows closely to the coastline. Not far south of Cooktown, near Black Mountain, call into the Lions Den Hotel for a lunch break. The Lions Den Hotel was established in 1875 and is still going strong today and is a popular stopping point for travellers on the Bloomfield Track. Near Bloomfield, a short drive will take you into Wujal Wujal Falls, a beautiful place whith great cultural significance to the Yalanji people. The track from Wujal Wujal becomes more challenging with steep climbs and descents, many creek crossings and thick rainforests and leads to Cape Tribulation. There will be time in Cape Tribulation to wander along the beach and maybe even have a close encounter with one of the local cassowaries. Continue to Thornton Beach and your last two nights accommodation on this tour in the heart of a pristine world heritage rainforest.

Daintree Rainforest     Meals BD

Today we will spend some time eXploring this wonderful part of the world, beginning with a guided walking tour with Neil or Angie Hewett, of the World Heritage Rainforest. Their property, near Cooper Creek is where Neil and Angie have lived, studied and explored for over 25 years. Spending time here is certainly the best way to appreciate this remarkable region.

Day 15 Thursday, 17 July 2025

Daintree Rainforest to Cairns     Meals B

A short drive this morning will take us to the Daintree River wher a ferry crossing will take us to our next adventure - crocodile spotting. Board the Solar Whisper with an informative, ‘eagle-eyed’ guide pointing out all kinds of river creatures including huge crocs, each with their own name! This afternoon, continuing south, pass through Mossman and Port Douglas for shopping, then following closely to the coast-line arrive in Cairns. It’s been 15 days full of incredible sights, thank you for travelling on this tour to Cape York with eXpedition10.
